ABOUT US

The Ashtabula Metropolitan Housing Authority was created via Annual Contributions Contract with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development on July 25, 1969. Public Housing Authorities are state created / federally funded programs. The PHA is overseen by a Board of Commissioners, who are appointed by 4 different government entities. The Board of Commissioners appoint the Executive Director who is responsible to run the day-to-day operations of the PHA. The duty of the housing authority is to house the residents of Ashtabula County in safe, decent and sanitary homes while being good stewards to American Taxpayer dollars.

AMHA consists of three different programs:
-
Public Housing – income-based rental units for families and/or elderly/disabled tenants owned and operated by the PHA.
-
Housing Choice Voucher (formerly known as Section 8) – income-based vouchers for rent subsidy in the private market.
-
USDA Rural Development – income-based rental units for elderly/disabled tenants owned and operated by the PHA.
AMHA currently owns and operates 10 properties within the public housing and USDA portfolios with a total of 554 apartments. We also subsize 481 vouchers through the housing choice voucher program.
All of the AMHA housing assistance programs go off a waiting list system. We do not have any emergency housing.
