How to Apply

Follow the steps listed below to successfully submit an online application for Public Housing, South Ridge Village or Housing Choice Voucher Rental Assistance through the Ashtabula Metropolitan Housing Authority.

Please review eligibility criteria as well as waiting list specifications for the individual programs to see if you qualify for assistance prior to submitting an online application.

Step 1: Before You Begin

Before starting your online application, please have the following items available for ALL members listed on the application:

  • Full Name (as it appears on the social security card)

  • Date of Birth (as recorded on the birth certificate)

  • Social Security Number

  • Income (wages, pension, retirement, disability, child support etc.)

  • Assets (checking, savings & investment accounts, online bank accounts, stocks, bonds, real estate etc.)

You will have to create a 4-digit PIN number to begin. Please write down your pin number for future access and submission of your application.

Select the waiting list(s) you would like your application to be applied to. Be sure to take your time and fill out all the information and answer all the questions on every page for the most accurate application data. This information may affect your preferences, for each specific program.

Step 2: Complete the Online Application

Click the button below to begin the online application.

Note: when you click the button for the housing application, you will be leaving the AMHA website.

NOTE: make sure to complete the following steps (Steps 3 & 4) to successfully complete & activate your online application.

Step 3: After Completing Your Online Application

The online application still requires submission of identification & releases signed by the applicant and any adult household members. Once you submit your online application it will go into PENDING status. We will mail you a letter regarding any documentation you will need to provide to complete your application.

Once you receive your letter, you may stop into the office or request the required documents via mail.  They must be submitted with original signatures. Emailed or faxed copies will not be accepted. Failure to provide these documents within thirty (30) days will result in the withdrawal of your application.

Step 4: Maintaining Your Status on the Waiting List

If you are added to the waiting list, you must contact the housing authority every 6 months to maintain the active status of your application. If there are any changes to your application (mailing address, phone number, family size, income, assets etc.) you will need to call and report these changes.

Should your name come to the top of the waiting list you will be notified by mail what the next step is and what required documentation is needed. If you do not respond to our notifications or your letter is returned undeliverable, your name will be removed from the waiting list

IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!

AMHA does NOT have emergency housing. All our programs run through a waiting list based on date & time of application as well as preference points.

All correspondence related to housing applications are done via mail. Please make sure you have a valid physical address where you can receive mail to maintain an active application.

The online application is a FULL APPLICATION. It is not a pre-application. You must disclose all required information. Failure to do so may result in the withdrawal of your application.

You only have 14 days to complete your application from the date you start.  If you fail to submit the application within this time period, the system will automatically delete your incomplete application, and you will have to start over.

Submit only ONE application. Duplicate applications will not be accepted.
